The Black Seeds are a New Zealand based band that have carved out their stunning reputation on the back of two double-platinum selling albums, and a masterful 8-piece live show.
The Black Seeds produce a boundary-crossing fusion of dub, funk, afrobeat and soul, mixed with a vintage reggae foundation. It is The Black Seeds unique style and ability of layering supremely infectious grooves and melodies over raw, undiluted roots music that has set them apart and now sees their music spreading quickly across the globe.
On-stage, The Black Seeds’ ability to connect with their audience has gained them a reputation as one of New Zealand’s finest live acts. Effortlessly gliding between big-beat funk and deep roots-reggae, their dynamic, supremely danceable, live show delivers a freight train of flavour to the people, on time, every time. Whether it’s a summer festival, or club show, the raw energy of The Black Seeds’ live show always hits the mark.

The Hot 8’s energy is legendary - regularly playing all day in the sun, then hopping to a club gig and playing through the night. Beyond this, it is the incredible sounds they coax from their well-loved, well-worn horns that makes the Hot 8 Brass Band so special.
The band brings together elements of modern and traditional music to create a unique, new class of brass music drawing on both the new urban culture, and the historical energy in the New Orleans music scene. Still grounded in the grass roots, they are frequently involved in local second-line parades and musical battles [face offs] with local jazz bands on the streets.
It was not until after Hurricane Katrina, that Hot 8’s reputation spread beyond New Orleans. They featured on CNN, in the New York Times and, most notably, in Spike Lee’s Katrina documentary, “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts”. Hot 8’s work with the Finding Our Folk Tour has helped considerably in supporting those displaced by Katrina.
The Hot 8’s version of Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing was one of the most eagerly awaited singles there has been on the Tru Thoughts label. This is your chance to join Jibbering and Leftfoot, and catch the finest New Orleans dance band of the moment, live and intimate …

Jibbering are delighted to welcome back to Birmingham one of only a few who can be regarded as a living legend. After Horace’s amazing set, closing Shambala 2008, we were desperate to bring him back to Birmingham. Imagine our delight when we found out that alongside one of the reggae vocalists of all time, we could also feature Ashley Beedle!
The artists are on the road to promote their new collaboration album on Strut records, part of the labels ‘Inspiration Information’ series. On the album Beedle draws on all of his diverse musical influences to create a collection of fresh roots fusions, ranging from dancehall to dubstep. The new material Ashley Beedle had worked on was stripped back in the studio, and the result is some deliciously heavy roots, ultra modern twists and a dance floor vibe, which allows Horace’s voice to shine through.
Horace Andy is perhaps best known to mainstream audiences for his work since the early ’90s as a guest vocalist with Bristol hit makers, Massive Attack. However, he is also widely venerated as an all-time great by hardcore reggae aficionados. Although Ashley Beedle is known for his 4/4 remixes, reggae has formed a crucial part of his musical DNA since his early days running the North London Shock sound system back in the ‘80s.
As Jibbering strides forward, towards the next chapter in its evolution, this is one of the many special events not to be missed (sign up to the mail list NOW!). It is a rare chance to see this great show, live and up close, in a quality intimate venue in Birmingham.
Jibbering is delighted and excited to welcome back The Apples! Their show last time around at the Hare & Hounds was one of the best we’ve done and we’re sure that, with some new material and a snare drum that works, The Apples will rock it even harder!!
For those of you who have yet to come across one of the hottest live acts around, The Apples are 2 DJs cuttin ‘n’ scratchin over a blinding rhythm section with 4 serious horns as the icing on this damn phat and funky cake! Their recent cover of Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name Of” was simply epic and has been smashin dancefloors worldwide!
Here’s a video of The Apples performing live.
And this is their rendition of “Killing In The Name Of.”
So we hope to see ya @ The Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath on Sat 7th March!
